Inner child poetry

There once was a castle up by the moon
Hidden from earth with the stars
And although it's held up by a balloon,
It weighs twice as much as Mars
Its walls were made of glitter
Its floors were made of dreams
And without gravity to consider,
It used rainbows as its beams
The gardens were galactic
With flowers blooming up in crowds
The fragrance so fantastic
Adding texture to the clouds
It had vibrant, neon bubbles
And confetti for its rain
Its light overshadowed troubles
Its sparkle overpowered pain
Yet beyond the flower-filled wagons
And past the glowing light
Was a place guarded by dragons
Invisible to our sight
Surrounded by an angry fog
With a fire burning blaze
No one could see past the smog
Or escape its eerie haze
Its walls were made of madness
Its floors were filled with fears
The roof was leaking sadness
The rain replaced by tears
It was a place of shame and guilt
Embedded within a storm
And although it was securely built
The inside never felt warm
Nothing here could flourish
Nothing here could thrive
And with nothing here to nourish
How could one survive?
Deep within the cellar
Past the maddened walls
Was a prisoned dweller
Racing through the halls
“Can anybody hear me?
All I do is shout!
I miss my home so dearly.
Can someone let me out?”
Nothing but echoes bounced from the walls
Silence was the only reply
No one heard the prisoner’s calls
Or listened to her cry
She sunk into a seated pose
“How many days have passed?
I’m stuck where nobody knows.
How will I ever last?”
She sat there in the dark
But when she opened up her eyes,
There was a twinkling spark
It took her by surprise
She gasped and leapt back
The sparkle soon subsided
The room returned to black
“Was that something I did?”
Suddenly she heard a sound
And immediately filled with fright
With fists tightly bound
She thought about that light
The spark quickly reappeared
The room was illuminated
And instead of seeing what she feared
She saw what she had accumulated
A little gold book alone on a shelf
She slowly looked around
She appeared to be by herself
Yet what could have been that sound?
She opened up the book
And flipped through every page
Then her once eager look
Swiftly turned to rage
“There’s nothing written inside!
How is this even fair?”
She gathered her last bit of pride
And tossed it in the air
She turned around and stomped away
Tripping over a big jar of honey
And instead of her usual dismay
She found this rather funny
She flew through the air
And landed safely
But she didn’t care
“Whoops-a-daisy!”
She cackled louder and louder
The cellar soon started to shake
Her chains burst into powder
The walls started to break
And through this rubble
To her own surprise
A small girl in trouble
Who had similar eyes
“How did you get up here?”
The girl picked up the book.
“There’s nothing in there, dear.”
“May I please have a look?”
Flipping through the pages
Her face filling with delight
“I haven’t been here in ages!
Are you from the castle of light?”
“Why, yes, I am,
But how can this be?
I don’t understand.
How can you see?”
“Often my talents are hidden by shyness.
But know that you are never alone.
Now follow me this way, your highness!
I will guide you to your throne.”
The dragons that once imprisoned her
Flew her past the stars
To a place with neon bubbles
That weighs twice as much as Mars
Forever she was grateful
For that little girl inside
Who helped her not be hateful
Or distract herself with pride
She lived happily by choice
Laughing everyday
For that inner child’s voice
Will forever stay
